Athletics vs. Academics in College?

Next year I will be heading off to college. Fortunately I have been recruited by several coaches for swimming. I'm worried though, because later in life I want to go to med school, if I will be able to balance academics, athletics, and having fun. Im looking for someone who knows a good amount about college to tell me if its possible to succeed academically as well as athletically?
