Was Elvis Presley a bigot or racist?

"the only thing a black man can do for me is shine my shoes". he was quoted as saying that but later denied it. from what i understand he was really good to his maid(a black woman) and it was said that he bought her a house. don't know enough about the "king" to say one way or another. i just know that he got rich off a catalog of songs originally done by black artists. he went on to become rich and famous while they died poor and in obscurity.
